Top Tree Tips for Finding and Decorating the Perfect Christmas Tree

We teamed up with Forestry England at Sherwood Pines and the Flower Room of Edwinstowe to provide the top tips for choosing and decorating your perfect real Christmas tree!

Before setting off make sure you have everything you need including your tree stand or pot. Make it a magical day, with the whole family with a walk around the forest.

Choosing and caring for your tree…

  1. Keep your tree in water, or water it daily. Ideally to help the tree absorb water take an inch off the stump which will have developed a sap layer.
  2. Location, location and location: Christmas trees don’t take well to fluctuating or extreme temperatures. Keep your tree away from radiators or fireplaces.
  3. Keep it sustainable, Forestry England uses the revenue from tree sales to support the management of their forests. All trees are sustainably sourced and FSC Certified.

When it comes to decorating…

  1. Let there be light, first. Start your decorating with the lights using the plug as the starting point, wrapping it around your Christmas tree’s trunk, working your way up from the centre of the base of your tree (make sure to give the lights a quick test before you start decorating!)
  2. Design around a theme and colour scheme that compliments your home. The new Christmas colours of 2019 include dusky pink as seen on the fashion catwalks, and layered shades of green to bring the outdoors in.
  3. Top it off properly, why not get crafty and create your very own tree topper, a real talking point over the festive season.
