Downsize, Don’t Compromise!

Top Tips for making the perfect downsize at Rufford Pastures

We caught up with Val and David who recently moved in to Rufford Pastures, they talked us through how they have made their new home perfect using local businesses and a passion for quality.

The couple moved from Colwick in Nottingham to downsize, having spent 28 happy years at their previous home.

Val explains “We came to the grand opening and were very impressed with the design of the homes and the location. Edwinstowe is a beautiful rural area with lots of activities close by.”

They bought their home off plan which gave them time to create a vision for their new home. Val mentioned: “the team at Woodhead Homes were really helpful in providing us with lots of information and floor plans to help us think about our new space, and they showed us all the options available to customise our new home.”

Val shared her top tips when planning your dream home: “We wanted to use local businesses wherever possible, so we went to town on the curtains selecting local supplier Palings Interiors of Lowdham and the Laura Ashley range”

Curtains are often overlooked but they really enhance the ambiance and energy of a room, and with the abundance of natural light in the homes at Rufford Pastures, quality curtains are perfect to frame the views of rural North Nottinghamshire.

All the blinds were supplied and fitted by OK blinds who are based in Edwinstowe.

Val continued “We also invested in bespoke, made to measure feature furniture. The area has an abundance of excellent craft businesses.”

The couple commissioned a beautiful new oak table from Insight Interiors, which provides a focal point and a topic of conversation for guests that elevates the open plan kitchen and dining area. The chairs were re-covered by Martin-Day Fabrics to match the rest of their décor and add the ideal finishing touch.

Val and David chose a “Cooper” which provides an impressive and spacious entrance lobby leading to an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area with an adjacent utility room. Two sets of bi-folding doors lead directly to the rear garden, which is another area the couple have truly made their own. Using David’s draft design developed and constructed by ‘The Gardening Gentleman’ and subsequently with Val’s planting ideas they’ve created a truly stunning outdoor space. There was even room for an outdoor “man cave” – a perfect home for David’s pool table!

David commented: “every room is well sized, the ceilings are nice and high. Plenty of light and airy. The open plan space just felt right, everyone could socialise without feeling isolated. We hosted 30 people at Christmas and nobody was cramped.”

Special thanks to David and Valerie for taking the time to tell us about their Rufford Pastures experience.
